What is Make the Cut?

Make the Cut! Imagine it, Create it, Cut it! is the best software cutting software on the market for scrapbooking and other paper crafts. There are several reasons why this is the best software:

  • Allows you to cut virtually any shape.
  • Makes it easy to convert file formats like TrueType/OTF Fonts, SVGs and PDFs into files your cutting machine can read.
  • Works with many different brands of cutters. For a full listing, visit the Make the Cut! website.
  • Easy to learn interface.
  • Upgrades are FREE.
  • It has an active community of cutters who participate in forums & webinars with the developer, who is constantly improving the product and implementing new features. My mother participates in these and she loves them.
  • Create custom backgrounds from any shape.
  • Full WYSIWYG (What You See is What You Get) Printer Support for Print-and-Cut!
  • Cut, Copy and Paste Shapes with Inkscape and Illustrator!
  • Great support features for customers.

Make the cut was designed by a really nice guy who was helping his wife with her scrapbooking project. She was struggling to complete her project in Cricut, so he began tinkering with the software. He got started on it and never stopped.

In the developer's own words,

"So I sat down and started designing Make The Cut!, adding and tweeking ideas on what we thought would make the perfect solution for the Cricut.

After a couple months of working around the clock, Make The Cut! was born! We hope you try the software and learn all the possible things you can do. We are very proud of Make The Cut! and would love to hear your feedback on how we can make it better."

He's not kidding about the feedback. He's had contributors making suggestions since the day Make the Cut! hit the web running, and has implemented features on an ongoing basis, making paper cutters giddy for each new release of the project.

Cricut wasn't very happy with some of the changes they made because Make the Cut! made it easy to convert files from anywhere and cut them on the Cricut machine, instead of having to buy Cricut cartridges directly.

Even though this project started as a Cricut-only project, Make the Cut now supports other cutters. Make the Cut is no longer compatible with the Cricut cutting machine.

Many serious scrapbookers and paper cutters have moved on from the Cricut to try other paper cutting machines that are more flexible in what designs can be used.

Here are just a few of the cutters on the market today that work with Make the Cut software:

Klic-N-Kut™ - the first cutter to ship exclusively with Make the Cut software

BossKut Gazelle™

Silhouette SD™ (my Mom uses this one - its cheap and super easy)

USCutter™ MH/LaserPoint series

and more.

Just so you know, I do not represent this software company in any way. My mother raves about this software so I just thought I'd share some information about it for other scrapbookers and paper cutters out there.
